Breast Screenings Coming Soon for Millgate Patients

Women registered with Millgate Healthcare Partnership aged 50 up to their 71st birthday who have not been screened within the last three years will begin receiving invitations for NHS Breast Screening from early to mid 2027. If you are due for screening, you do not need to contact the screening service as you will be invited automatically. Only women aged over 71 who wish to continue breast screening need to contact the screening service to opt in.

All appointments are delivered by female staff, with most taking place at the mobile screening unit at Ashton Primary Care Centre. If you are a wheelchair user or have mobility difficulties, please contact the screening service once you receive your invitation, as an alternative venue may be more suitable. If you have any other additional needs and require reasonable adjustments, need to change the date or time of your appointment, or would like to attend with a friend who is also due for screening, please contact the screening service to discuss the options available.

To see what happens at a breast screening appointment, watch the NHS YouTube video “What happens at your breast screening appointment.”

On the day of your appointment:

· Wear a two-piece outfit so you only need to undress from the waist up.

· Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder or other body powders on your chest or underarms.

· Two X-rays of each breast will be taken, with each X-ray lasting only a few seconds.

If you’re feeling nervous or unsure about attending, please don’t let this stop you. The screening team and your GP practice are here to support you and answer any questions. We’d much rather help you attend than miss the opportunity altogether.

Breast screening can detect cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment is often simpler and more effective. However, if you notice any new breast symptoms, please contact the practice and do not wait for your screening appointment.
